Additional Information about Josephine Butler Parks Center

Meridian Hill Park is one of my favorite places in DC to shoot engagement sessions, surprise proposals, and yes, wedding portraits! It's a sprawling park with many secluded spots ensuring no interlopers are in your photos.

But wait. Isn't this post about the Josephine Butler Parks Center? Yes, and good catch.

Josephine Butler Parks Center is directly across the street from Meridian Hill Park. Maybe 50 feet. Not far enough to get your 10,000 steps in, but fret not - you'll get those steps walking around the park for your amazing wedding portraits.

(Side note: here are some other wedding portraits taken at Meridian Hill Park.)

The center itself is "an 18,000 sq ft, 40-room Renaissance-revival style mansion." In other words, it looks like a building transplanted from the Italian countryside.

It was once an embassy but now functions as "a nonprofit Center for Shared Space, Parks & People. [It] provides about 10-12 community-based non-profit culture and service organizations office space" supporting its mission to advance the parks and public spaces of Washington, DC. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll see that I have a thing for venue's with admirable missions.

Vendors and Catering

One of the benefits of having your wedding at the Josephine Butler Parks Center is that they have an extensive list of preferred caterers providing a wide range of deliciousness. I've written about three of these caterers in a previous post. You can read more about Well Dunn, Timber Pizza Co and Get Plated in my vendor article.

Another benefit is that it has a parking lot (rare for DC) and is metro accessible.
