Proposing at the Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial is one of my most popular spots for surprise proposals. There are a variety of options for backdrops including the Lincoln Memorial itself, the statue of Abraham Lincoln, or the Washington Monument as seen through the columns. You can see examples of each vantage point below.

Portrait Spots

Another benefit of the Lincoln Memorial is the variety of spots available for post-proposal portraits. You have great views of the DC National Mall, Rosslyn across the river in Virginia, as well as some park-style photos with trees and pathways.

Time of Day

While you can propose at any time of day, I suggest the early morning or late evening in order to avoid crowds. The later the proposal the better in my experience, up to and including midnight! Another benefit of a nighttime proposal is capturing the beautiful glow of the brightly lit Washington Monument and Capitol in the distance.

Of course, a sunset proposal has great light but it can be trickier to avoid people in the best proposal spots. However, I have been known to ask people to move right before a proposal...

Sunrises also work but who wants to be up that early? No one, that's who.

I’m Chris and my mission is to capture bold, modern, and distinctive photos for unconventional couples. I want to make you look epic, awesome, amazing, beautiful, and dapper – all the things you like and none of the things you don’t. Most importantly, I want to capture what makes you you.
